Addis abeba City Tour

Addis was founded in 1886 by Menelik II, and situated at an elevation of around 2438M which makes third highest capital city in the world. Addis Ababa enjoys an excellent climate all year round, with an average temperature of 25°C. Addis Ababa is the capital of Ethiopia. Its name means 'New Flower' and was founded in 1887 by Emperor Menelik. With a population of almost 4 million it is by far the largest city in the country, a bustling place full of interest, color and life. Addis between 2300 and 2500 metres above sea level and has a delightful climate. The city is the diplomatic capital of Africa and is the headquarters of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). There are more than 70 Embassies and consular representatives in the city. 

Debre Libanos Monastery

Debre Libanos Monastery ( ) is the biggest Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity monastery in Ethiopia.it is most reputed Orthodox monastic enclaves. It was founded by Abune Tekle Haimanot as early as 1260. Debre Libanos is one of villages of nuns and monks, the original monastery (cave) and the modern church with beautiful architecture. Interior paintings and historical antiquities in the church museum are of great interest. it is 100 kilometers north of Addis Ababa on the way, a few kms off the main highway north to Bahar Dar. The scenery is spectacular and the monastery village is situated on a terrace high up on the walls of a thousand metre deep gorge. In the rainy season waterfalls tumble off the surrounding cliffs

Itinerary
Day 1: Addis abeba city Tour 

Visit Addis Abeba will begin with seeing the orthodox cathedral of the Holy Trinity. It is the most important church in Ethiopia. In this church, there is a mausoleum of the last emperor of Ethiopia - Haile Selasje. his wife is also buried there. Then, we will see the National Museum, that is said to be one of the most important museums in whole Sub-Saharian Africa. 3,2 million-years old bones of our grand grand .... ancestor - Lucy, are one of the most famous exhibit of their collection. The attention of visitors is drawn by a rich collection of insignia of emperor and churches, costumes and weapons. The oldest exhibits are rock sculptures and inscriptions from the times of Queen Saba, found near Aksum and in today's Eritrea.

The ethnographic museum, that is a next stop on our trip in Addis Abeba, is located in the University. It was found and managed by Polish scientists, professor Stanisław Chojnacki. Probably the most interesting part of the exhibition is a collection of crosses and icons. The museum should be visited by amateurs of folklore instruments, since the collection of them gathered in the museum is impressive . lunch break will take place in the restaurant serving Ethiopian dishes and local beer. e.g in "Ambassador" with a large garden . The final attraction of the day in Addis Abeba will be a trip through Merkato, which is believed to be the biggest marketplace in Africa.

climb the Entoto hill located 3200 m above the sea. Here located was the capital city of Ethiopia, before Menelik II moved it to Addis Abeba. The king's palace remained until today. The local museum exhibits crowns belonging to kings and church, costumes and insignia.

Day 2: Full DayTrip to Debre Libanos Monastery

This 9 hours excursion (extra 1 hour for lunch) takes you to one of the oldest and remarkable monasteries of Ethiopia. The monastery complex sits on a terrace between a cliff and the gorge of one of the tributaries of the Abbay River. None of the original buildings of Debre Libanos survive, although David Buxton suspected "there are interesting things still to be found among the neighbouring cliffs." Current buildings include the church over Tekle Haymanot’s tomb, which Emperor Haile Selassie ordered constructed in 1961; a slightly older Church of the Cross, where Buxton was told a fragment of the True Cross is preserved; and five religious schools. The cave where the saint lived is in the nearby cliffs. The Portuguese Bridge, The Jemma River are also the other attractions included on this program

Major places of visits and activities included on the Day tour from Addis Ababa are: - 

* Visiting Debre Libanos Monastery (the biggest in Ethiopia with about 5, 000 monks and nuns) which dates back to the 13th Century AD. Spend few minutes to visit the Monastery's museum.

* Cross the Portuguese Bridge (16th Century AD) to the best viewpoint to enjoy the great scenery of the Jemma River Gorge

* Cultural Experience with visiting a local family of farmers to take part traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony and learn their way of living

* Walk around to see Gelada Baboons which are found only in Ethiopia

DAY 3-Tiya

Drvie to sodo Tiya is among the most important of the roughly 160 archaeological sites discovered so far in the Soddo region, south of Addis Ababa. The site contains 36 monuments, including 32 carved stelae covered with symbols, most of which are difficult to decipher.
