Chestnuts picking on Medvednica

Do it just as local people do! Private hiking and chestnuts picking tour above Zagreb on mountain of Medvednica. Hidden from the beautiful, historical centre of Zagreb is the refreshing nature of Medvednica, which will be the destination of this tour. Medvednica is a Nature Park, which attracts many people from Zagreb, and they see it as a place where they can escape from the city crowd, summer heat and winter fog.A great addition to Zagreb visit, outdoor activity as the local people traditionally do it, with delicious chestnuts picking and tasting in privately held property in Medvednica! From a crowded city in less than half an hour, you will be in green and peaceful mountain to enjoy your relaxation in the nature. If you are lucky, you can even see a rabbit or a deer, and taste fresh water directly from the natural spring on the trail. NOTE: Chestnuts picking and cooking is available only in chestnuts season, but hike to private forest is available all year!

Tour starts by walking through a pedestrian tunnel that will lead you to "Zagrebačka žičara", the Zagreb cable lift (now closed), and continue with a short walk through the forest trail "Bliznec", which will lead to the natural spring where it is possible to take fresh water from the spring. From the spring, a bit steeper trail leads to "Strmopeć" peak, where we will have a chance for a small rest with a nice view. This is the highest point of our tour and the trail leads down to a privately held "Grandma Marica's forest", where chestnuts grow. Here, you can pick nice and healthy chestnut fruits while the guide shares the local family story about chestnuts. We will also have a short lesson about how they are prepared. Then, after a short rest, we will start the hike back to Zagreb.
