The Golden Rock Pagoda is one of the most famous and treasured landmarks of Myanmar. An enormous rock covered with gold leaves is poised precariously at the edge of a steep cliff. It is said, that a hair of Buddha is enshrined in the pagoda on top of the rock.

Itinerary
Day 1: Yangon - Bago - Kyaikhtiyo

You will be picked up at your hotel for your journey to Kyaikhtiyo. On the way, you stop in Bago, a town housing s a large number of interesting and historically-important sights. Here you visit the Shwemawdaw Pagoda often referred to as the "Golden God Temple". This pagoda is the tallest pagoda in the country, although the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon normally receives those credits. You will then leave Bago and continue to the Kinpun 'base camp'. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant en-route. The tour will continue to one of Myanmar's landmarks, famous for its precarious position and religious importance: The Golden Rock is a huge boulder completely covered by gold leaf and delicately balanced on the edge of a cliff. Upon arrival at the basecamp of Kinpun, you take a seat in one of the local trucks that head up to the mountain. Arriving on top of the mountain, it is another 30-minutes walk to reach the Golden Rock, a large boulder, which appears do balance delicately on a well-placed hair of Buddha on the edge of a cliff. Upon arrival, start sightseeing as your guide will explain the history behind the Golden Rock. Enjoy the fantastic panoramic views of the natural surroundings and mountains of Mon State. Dinner will be served in the evening.

Day 2: Kyaikhtiyo - Bago - Yangon

After breakfast, you will return to Yangon. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Bago and continue sightseeing in the former Kingdom of Hanthawaddy: The Shwethalyaung Pagoda is a reclining Buddha which has a length of 55 meters. Myanmar people say about the Buddha image, that it represents Buddha in a 'relaxing' mode. Then, you visit the Kyaikpun Pagoda on the way back to Yangon. There is a small Buddhist monastery, known for its four towering images of the Buddha, often visible from a far distance. The images, facing each other’s back, represent the four Buddhas that have reached Nirvana. Last, you pass the Taukkyan War Cemetery, a monument for allied soldiers from the British Commonwealth who died in battle in Burma during the Second World War.
