Itinerary
DAY 1-Shkodra – Komani Lake – Valbona Valley National Park

Our journey towards Komani Lake begins early in the morning. Our tour leader will come and pick you up at your hotel in Shkoder. As we take the turn from the main road to Vau i Dejës, the area becomes more rural with fewer cars but more wild nature and amazing landscapes. We will stop for a short break by Vau i Dejes Lake, a beautiful and tranquil setting, and from here on we will experience local transport over bumpy roads but with a great view. We will get on a ferry that will take us through Komani Lake offering spectacular views of the Albanian Alps, waterfalls, rural villages and wild forests. It is considered by many as an exotic experience combined with the unmatched hospitality of the locals. Our next destination will be Valbona Valley National Park. We will arrive in Valbona and after we will explore the area and admire the so-called Crown of the Albanian Alps. Overnight in a guesthouse in Valbona.

DAY 2- Valbona Valley - Valbona Pass – Theth

Get ready for the highlight of this trip. Trekking to Theth from Valbona will be an intense day as the walk takes about 6 to 8 hours (about 1050m elevation) in a remote terrain, nevertheless unquestionably worthy! The Valbona pass to Theth offers a spectacular view of the Peaks of the Balkans and “Accursed Mountains”. When reaching the top of the Valbona Pass, you will experience a serious shot of adrenaline. From here you will be able to see both sides of the valleys. This top viewpoint is perfect for a short break and the possibility to capture amazing pictures of the Albanian Alps. On our descent to Theth (1,100m in elevation and over a 6 km distance) we will pass through some beautiful landscapes and wild forests. The path toward Theth National Park is shaded by the forest. After reaching the village, we will walk towards the traditional guesthouse.Overnight in Theth.

Valbona Pass: elevation up to 1050m, hiking 6 to 8 hours.

DAY 3-Theth – Grunas Waterfall - Blue Eye – Theth -Shkodra

We will enjoy our last traditional breakfast at the heart of the Albanian Alps. After breakfast we will visit the Old Church and the “Lock in” Tower (symbol of Theth). The stories behind these buildings take up centuries full of history. From there we will begin our hiking adventure to Grunas Waterfall (about 1-hour hike one way). Grunas Waterfall is a curtain of white water that comes over the grey rocks as if it were being poured from a bucket that never empties. The water tumbles down the hillside in a series of mini-waterfalls. After, we will continue our hiking journey towards the natural wonder of the so-called “Blue Eye of Theth”. The hike lasts around 3 hours one way. The Blue Eye is formed by the erosion of the rocks by the water that descends from melting snow of the Albanian Alps. You will not be able to take your eyes off the iridescent glow of green and blue colours of this marvel of nature, inviting you to dive in. Our driver will come and pick you up in Nderlysaj, taking us back through a steep sneaky hillside reaching up to 1700 meters above sea level at Qafa e Thores. They say this is the spot with the best picture – perfect view of the Albanian Alps. The elaborated zig-zags road through the mountainous terrain smoothens down little by little taking us towards Shkoder. You will return home full of the wonders of Albania with a new sense of self excitement to share with those around you.

Grunas Waterfall with an elevation up to 270m, hiking 1 hour one way.

Blue eye: elevation up to 789 m, hiking 3-4 hours one way.
