Overview

One of the country’s most diverse states, Oaxaca, will surprise you with some of Mexico’s most fascinating cultural traditions, with colourful crafts and world-famous gastronomy. One of Oaxaca’s main attractions is the capital city, which goes by the same name as the state. The colonial city, surrounded by the high mountains of the Southern Sierra Madre, features archaeological zones, architecturally interesting buildings, ancient churches, and baroque temples. But especially the historic centre of Oaxaca, which was declared world heritage by UNESCO, elicits attention.

Day 1: Oaxaca Transfer in and walking city tour

Continue to Oaxaca, one of the most picturesque colonial towns of Mexico. Oaxaca (World Heritage) is famous for its many indigenous traditions, reflected in its beautiful crafts and typical gastronomy. Half a day you are walking city tour in Oaxaca, at the proper time, one of our tour guides will meet you at the lobby of your hotel and walk you through one of the fascinating cities in Mexico. A unique and colourful city located in a valley surrounded by the Sierra del Sur mountain range. During this visit, you will admire the centre of the town with its beautiful Santo Domingo church. This historical centre comprises 27 blocks covering 5 km: 26 temples, five convents, and various civilian buildings that portray the diverse architectural style from the XVI to XX century. Duration half day

Day 2: Oaxaca - Monte Alban - Mitla - Tule

Visit the archaeological zone of Monte Alban, located only a few kilometres outside the city of Oaxaca. Monte Alban, meaning “White Mountain,” is an ancient Zapotec capital constructed on a plateau at 1,940 meters above sea level. With pyramids, temples, tombs, ceremonial rock carvings, and a court for the pre-Hispanic ball game, we will find cultural traces from different civilizations, among many other mystical constructions. Its spectacular hilltop location guarantees breathtaking views of the valleys of Oaxaca. We then continue to Mitla, an old ceremonial centre of the Zapotecs. Mitla is known for its outstanding mosaics in its walls, representing different geometric designs, a unique style of decorating in Mesoamerica. Adjacent to the archaeological site, you can also see the 16th century Church of San Pablo, built by the Spanish with materials from the ruins. On the way back to Oaxaca, we will make a stop to admire the Tule tree, perhaps one of the most influential living beings in the world. Once again, in Oaxaca, we will explore the beauty of this city, with sights such as the Cathedral, the magnificent Santo Domingo church, the Museum of Gold, and the colourful “20 de Noviembre” market. Included: Breakfast in Hotel, Shared Transportation, Visit to Monte Alban and Mitla with Bilingual Speaking Guide (English-Spanish Language), Entry for Archeological Site of Monte Alban, Mitla and Tule, Walking Tour Oaxaca City with Bilingual Speaking Guide (English-Spanish Language), Overnight Hotel in Oaxaca.
